Arp, America is thrilled to have one of its outstanding young men complete his childhood dream Wednesday as he signed to play baseball at the college level.

Tiger senior infielder Jackson Cavazos signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, MO while also accepting an athletic scholarship from the institution.  He plans to major in exercise physiology.

“Jackson Cavazos is the embodiment of an Arp Tiger that brings championship effort, attitude, and toughness every day,” said Arp High School head baseball coach Dakota Alexander.

As he’s been called upon, Cavazos has played multiple positions throughout his high school career including second base, shortstop, and pitcher.

“He is selfless, striving to make everyone around him better, and holds himself to the highest standard, aiming for excellence in everything he does,” Alexander explained.

Cavazos throws right-handed but from a very young age learned to bat left-handed.  He has been very successful at the plate ever since.

Some of his honors include:

3-year varsity starter at Arp H.S.

2023 2nd Team All-District 16-3A shortstop.

Nominated for the annual Tyler Morning Telegraph “Best Preps” baseball award.

 Pertinent Stats during Arp H.S. Career:

2023 (junior) .318 BA, .455 OBP (6th in district), .944 fielding % (9th in district)

2022 (sophomore) .243 BA, .429 OBP, .930 fielding %, 9.0 IP, 12 K’s (1.33 K’s per inning)

Outside Arp ISD, Cavazos plays summer baseball for T.H.A. Stix (Thomas Hitting Academy).

“We are beyond proud of his accomplishments and are excited for his bright future,” added Alexander.

The signing ceremony took place at John Mills Parker Gymnasium on the Arp High School campus.
