Arp Elementary first grade teacher Kandice McDow humbly attributes her recognition to her great colleagues.

In her sixth year teaching at Arp ISD, Mrs. McDow was pleasantly surprised by Arp Elementary Principal Beth Hines with the district's KTBB Radio teacher of the month award for the month of September.

"There are so many deserving teachers on this campus," said McDow.  "I am the teacher I am today because of the role model educators I am surrounded by."

Hines told her when presenting her the award plaque that she is, "A heart," for her students.  And that her, "Dedication to these kids cannot be matched."

A 2008 graduate of Arp High School, McDow has been teaching a total of eight years.  When she came to Arp Elementary two years into her career, she taught Kindergarten for three years, before moving to first grade.

She's quick to credit those she's been able to learn from.

"When you work with the best, you become the best," stated McDow.

She adds that she's, "Blessed to be recognized, and  it means a lot to her."

McDow earned her degree from LeTourneau University in Longview.
