GCU surprises Arp High School educators

Teachers can get good grades too.

And they are rewarded for their efforts.

Wednesday, Arp High School yearbook and math models teacher Le'Kisha Stinecipher and special education aide Christal Garrett received a congratulatory surprise.

Both accepted nominations for Grand Canyon University's National Scholar Collegiate Society.

The surprise visit came from GCU's local university development counselor for East Texas, Cynthia Turner, who brought pizza for the entire Arp High School staff to celebrate Mrs. Stinecipher and Mrs. Garrett's achievements.

To receive this accolade, a GCU student must rank among the top ten percent of students that carry at least a 3.4 grade point average.

Mrs. Stinecipher and Mrs. Garrett are currently taking advantage of Arp ISD's partnership with GCU.

Mrs. Stinecipher is working online on a bachelor of business for secondary education, and exploring the possibility of a minor in designer graphics.  She plans to use her degree to teach business information management at the high school level.

Mrs. Garrett is looking to complete an alternative certification program to become an elementary school teacher.

Both will travel to Phoenix, Arizona next fall for an induction ceremony.

Their lifetime membership to GCU's national honors society gives them free access to scholarship opportunities, tutorials, grants, and many more benefits.
