The third six weeks syllabus will contain the following:

Writing

The student will:

bluebullet.gif (1407 bytes)Continue journal entries to effectively practice usage, grammar, and mechanics skills.

bluebullet.gif (1407 bytes)Rely increasingly on the conventions and mechanics of written English including the rules of usage and grammar, to write clearly and effectively.  Focus especially on words often confused is spelling and usage.

Vocabulary

The student will:

bluebullet.gif (1407 bytes)Acquire an extensive vocabulary through reading and systematic word study.

bluebullet.gif (1407 bytes)Ten vocabulary or "Hot Words" are assigned the first day of each week.

bluebullet.gif (1407 bytes)Students are exposed to the Hot Words throughout the week in journal entries, reading assignments, and class discussions.

bluebullet.gif (1407 bytes)Students are quizzed over the week's ten Hot Words in a quiz at the end of each week that uses the words in a variety of contexts.

bluebullet.gif (1407 bytes)Students are tested over the definitions of two weeks' worth of words.

Reading

The student will:

bluebullet.gif (1407 bytes)Read American literature written during and about the period of Reason and Revolution.

glb2_anm.gif (17772 bytes)Students will be evaluated through quizzes and tests for comprehension and interpretation.
