Tech Prep Programs
The Arp Independent School district does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, or disability in providing education or providing access to benefits of education services, activities, and programs, including vocational programs, in accordance with the Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended; and the Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Gaining High School Credits (acceleration)
Students may gain accelerated credit in the following ways:
Credit by Exam -- Examinations for credit are available to any student. These examinations are very difficult and require a 90% when the student has had no previous instruction. Only 5% of students taking a credit by examination will achieve a score high enough to gain credit. |
High school credit may be given to students who take BCIS I, Spanish I, Agricultural Science, and Algebra I in the 8th grade. Students must pass an end-of-course test and maintain an A average in the class to be granted high school credit while in the 8th grade. |
Gaining College Credits
Students may gain college credit in high school in the following ways:
| Pre-AP and AP Courses: Advanced Placement courses allow students to take courses at the high school while gaining experience in college-level curriculum. Students who complete the AP high school course may apply for college credit after passing the AP exam. |
Articulated Courses (see TJC chart below): These courses allow students to gain college credit by attending certain classes on the high school campus. Students must maintain a B average and apply for credit at a state college. |
Concurrent Courses: Core and career advancing courses may be taken at a college and used for concurrent college and high school credit for graduation. A student will need an agreement with the counselor and the student's parent for such courses. |
Distance Learning Courses: Students may use the district's Interactive Television Distance Learning Equipment to take courses from participating colleges. Currently Arp High School has connectivity with Tyler Junior College. |
Internet Courses: Students may use Internet Texas Education Agency accredited courses to gain accelerated credit. A letter of agreement must be obtained from the counselor and the student's parent for such courses. |
