Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Entertainment (Multimedia in Windows 95), and open the Sound Recorder application.
Click the Record button (a red circle or microphone icon) and speak into the microphone for 5-10 seconds.
Click the Stop button (black rectangle icon).
To play your recording back, click the Play button (triangle icon).

If you did not hear sound using the Windows Sound Recorder, please verify that your microphone is in good working condition and that it is correctly connected to your sound card.

Please verify that the microphone and speakers are connected correctly to your computer. The speaker jack on your sound card may be designated by color, with a speaker icon, or labeled “speaker”.

Note: Do not plug the speaker cord for the headset into the “Line In” jack found on most sound cards. The “Line In” jack will not produce adequate sound. The microphone jack on your sound card may be designated by color, with a microphone icon, or labeled “mic-in”. If your sound card is labeled, plug your microphone into the appropriate jack.
