August 10 HS Auditorium----All principals and faculty members MUST attend for NCLB -- 6 hour workshop on Highly Effective Schools. Please do not plan any other activity this day.

Opening Introduction -- Joy Rousseau -- 1 hour Culture of Achievement, No Excuses, Focus on College Prep from Kindergarten up, Transforming Speech, SCANS, Whole-Part-Whole, Special Education Accountability, High Expectations, Special Education Issues.

Break up into groups -- Led by Principal By CAMPUS --

Develop the following -- (You may want to break your campus up by groups)

(1) Develop a 3-Year Professional Development Plan

bulletBy Novice, By Developing Teacher, By Mentor, By Subject
bulletWhat should Every Teacher Know? Develop a comprehensive list of "need to know" by subject, by grade level
bulletMethods, Materials, Resource People? Should include Region VII workshops, Online research, Book Studies, Specific adopted materials, Technology Applications Modules, district adopted initiatives, etc.
bulletHow long will it take -- 3 year plan -- outline each year.
bulletWhen, Where, Who?
bulletAccountability? How will you know teachers have implemented what they have learned?
bulletWho will report to the district on progress? How will you develop continuing Needs Assessment? How often?

(2) Develop Effective Homework Policies for your Campus --grade level and/or subject area

bulletHow will you know if it is effective?

(3) Develop Effective Tutorial Policies for your Campus--How will you account for time of both teacher and student? Accountability? Funding? How will you know if it is working? (CAUTION! No more "baby sitting assignments") How can students on your campus reclaim credits, accelerate in skills development? Detailed Plan. Funding? Materials needed? Resources Needed? You may need to research this!!

(4) Develop Effective Parental Involvement Policy for NCLB. How? When? How Often? How will you Know if it is Effective?

August 13 Workshop on August 13th – “Dealing with Difficult and Reluctant Students” presented by Cindy Jones.

Cindy has been a teacher in both special and general education, an educational diagnostician, and an administrator in a school for students with emotional disturbances. Her workshop includes the latest research and how to apply it in a teacher-friendly manner.

She will need TV/VCR Overhead projector and Screen -- TABLES for group work
