Suggested Student Roles in the Classroom
Each student's talent(s) and interest(s) may be promoted and utilized through the classic collaborative classroom roles.
  • penclred.gif (4277 bytes)Recorder -- Document Manager (Scribe): 
  • To record group ideas, plans, research data, content.
  • Document and maintain records (SCANS),
  • produce word processing documents or
  • maintain charts or data collection records.

  • To monitor group participation
  • Manages time (SCANS), scheduling, phases, benchmarks
  • To chair discussion and make sure everyone has a turn
  • Assures data collection is accurate and relevant.

  • To distribute materials for entire group
  • The student allowed to collect information and distribute supplies
  • The only group member who is allowed to address questions to the facilitator
  • Researcher -- collects data online or offline for group activities
  • Manages all group supplies, journals, notebooks, manipulatives (SCANS).

  • Reinforces members' contributions
  • Negotiates, praises, awards, and provides a positive learning environment
  • Manages Teamwork (SCANS)
  • Makes sure everyone understands.

  • Is responsible for making presentation to group or groups using appropriate foundational skills and communication skills
  • Presents information (oral, visual, kinesthetic, multimedia presentation, video, poem, song, play) in a way so that those outside the group will understand (SCANS)
  • Uses multiple intelligences and talents of the group to synthesize project presentation
  • Delivers presentation with diverse learners in mind.
