Welcome back! We are looking forward to a GREAT year at Arp Elementary!
Dear Parents:
It is important that you help your child get off to a good start this year. Here are six ways that might help you get started.
Get to know your child’s teacher as soon as possible. You know your child best. Share your knowledge with the teacher. Does your child have a special interest? Are there areas where you see your child needing special help? Don’t wait until parent conference time to make this all important contact with your child’s teacher.
Don’t hesitate to speak with the teacher about sensitive issues. Remember that what goes on at home can affect the student’s performance in the classroom. Issues like parent separation, a new baby, family illness, or even a change of residence, can have a harmful effect on a student’s schoolwork.
Please make certain that your child gets enough rest. Tired children cannot do their best work. Consistency is the key here: Set a bedtime hour and stick to it.
Be familiar with what the school expects of your child on issues like homework, absences, tardies, etc…
Limit television watching. Study after study concludes that those children who do the best work in school watch the least TV.
Please don’t hesitate to telephone me here at the Elementary Counseling Office if you have any questions or concerns. I am here to help you resolve your problems and offer support so that your child will be successful both academically and socially.
Sincerely,
Sharon Keith
