Open Office Quickstart
When first saving a document or any other file in Open Office (just as you do in MS Office Word), select File SAVE AS
INSTEAD of saving the file as ODF, use the down arrow and select Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (doc) extension. This makes your document compatible with all the district software. Remember the 3 SINS of SAVING....make sure your students are accountable for each of the 3 down arrows. (1) Where they SAVE (2) what they NAME their file (remember short filenames with no spaces) (3) and the FILE TYPE. These skills are a part of the 8th grade TA TEKS.
You will need to save PowerPoints as ppt files. You will need to save spreadsheets as xls files. NOTE: Open Office does not support Outlook so for mail so you will need to use Web Mail both while inside the district and outside the district.
