The Philosophy
Our world is
shrinking everyday aided by blended technologies (WWW, ITV, Cellular and
Wireless access, teleconferencing, satellite broadcasting, etc.) bringing
everyone closer together. In recent years telecommunications and
teleconferencing have been relied on more and more by businesses and
education entities alike. These technologies are often preferred over
airline fares, gasoline and hotel costs. In education, distance
learning has allowed students the opportunity to experience educational
opportunities 24-7. In the business world, it is common for companies
to hold initial interviews via teleconferencing before a potential employee
is even considered for a face-to-face interview.
The reality of the
communication age is that we will inevitably be required to deliver our
ideas and thoughts by facing into a small online camera lens to communicate
and collaborate for the competitive edge in education, jobs, and personal
pursuits.
The objectives of this
exercise are to give you the opportunity to:
-
Use positive open-body
language on camera
-
Effectively communicate
creative ideas with expression, pronunciation, and projection
-
Practice interview
skills -- "thinking on your feet"
-
Practice ITV etiquette
-- speak in turn, give plenty of wait time, deliver clear and well formed
questions and statements
-
Analyze the benefits
and disadvantages of the telecommunication experience
